2007
My recent paintings continue a long standing interest
in landscape from my immediate surroundings, distant places of
particular natural beauty and abstractions based on Asian influences.
What distinguishes this current group of works is
its focus on waterfalls. Most of the realistic waterfalls are
of places that really exist in Vermont, New York State and Ohio.
The abstract waterfalls were inventions, but they relate
in form and spirit to ancient Chinese paintings. Images of calm
or cascading water offer opportunities for such a diversityof interpretations
I am never at a loss for ways to use it
to express the extremes of human emotion, or the quieter moments of
philosophical or spiritual contemplation.
